Singapore, November 13, 2013:- Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies announces that it will provide PT Asahi Indofood Beverage Makmur, Indonesia with a wastewater treatment plant for a new greenfield beverage production facility. PT Asahi Indofood Beverage Makmur is a joint venture between Asahi Group Holdings, Ltd and PT Indofood CBP Sukses Makmur Tbk. The beverage plant is located in Sukabumi, West Java, Indonesia, and the wastewater treatment system will feature Biothane® UASB (Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket) technology.
Michel Otten, Technical Manager Asia and Biothane specialist at Veolia, said: "This contract underlines the strength of our partnership with Indofood in Indonesia, and also reflects Veolia's confidence in its solutions. This is our second project with an Indofood joint venture company, and our tenthBiothane reference in Indonesia. We feel privileged to be able to share our capabilities with customers in South East Asia, and we hope that more companies here will see in Veolia, and its Biothane portfolio, a leading water treatment brand and supplier in the region."
The Asahi Indofood wastewater treatment plant project encompasses engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC), and will consist of a complete treatment process.
Pre-treatment processes, screening and solids removal will first be performed to efficiently remove suspended solids, fats, oils, and greases. Then, Biothane UASB technology and an activated sludge aerobic treatment will be employed to treat the effluent.
Biothane UASB is a robust, medium-loaded anaerobic wastewater treatment technology that is specifically suitable for treatment of food and beverage-type effluents. This aerobic treatment helps to ensure that regulatory standards for wastewater discharges are met.
Due to the nature of the F&B industry, high concentrations of effluents are common occurrences that can pose problems. With Biothane, Asahi Indofood will be able to process 1,950 m3/d of wastewater with a daily COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand) load of 5,850 kg.
"With Biothane, our customers can enjoy long-term, cost-effective, and efficient yet sustainable wastewater treatment for their facilities, regardless of location," added Kai Richter, Regional Market Manager, Food & Beverage. "We look forward to forging closer relationships with food and beverage manufacturers as we continue to offer the best that we can provide in water and wastewater treatment solutions here in the region."
